"The bird watching is really great on this part of the creek! I can entertain myself all day watching great blue herons, osprey and bald eagles - and paddling is by far the best way to get close to them." Susan Griswold, kayaker

ABOUT THE RONDOUT CREEK: The Rondout flows southwest to northeast out of the Catskill Mountains to the Hudson River. In the late 1800's the Rondout Creek was the northern end of the D&H Canal running from northeastern Pennsylvania to the Hudson River at Kingston Point, which connected freight commerce to New York City. This area has a very rich history surrounding the canal. With the advent of the railroad, however, maintenance on the canal ceased. Today much the D&H Canal's once elaborate stone lock system and retaining walls and can only be seen in fragments here and there throughout the Rondout Valley.

From the marina, one can go a mile up stream to the Eddyville Falls, a great area for birdwatching and fishing. Or one can go a mile down stream past the thriving "Strand" waterfront district of Kingston, to Kingston Point and the Hudson River.
